Call for Abstracts

General:
LALS 2018 to be hold in Israel will aim to provide a unique gathering forum in which scientists from different disciplines of life sciences such as biomedical optics and imaging, laser spectroscopy, laser therapy and bio-photonic sensing can get together in order to establish a platform of collaboration, to exchange ideas as well as to learn about the challenges involved in laser applications in life sciences. The meeting will involve a fruitful scientific program for formal and informal interactions between the participants, as well as industrial exhibition and a touring program in Israel.

Venue:
Israel is a land of many contrasts and a remarkable variety of landscapes and people; a young country only 70 years old, in a land with thousands of years of human history and heritage. A land in which within 2 driving hours one may pass from the solid reddish rocks of the desert of Judea to the forests and waterfalls of the northern mountains. Pass through the ancient 4000 years old city of Jerusalem to the modern skyscrapers of Tel-Aviv. Despite of its relatively small number of population, Israel has proven itself as a high tech core, playing an important and emerging role as a worldwide engineering training center, such that many large companies have established their R&D centers in Israel (as Intel, HP Indigo – Scitex, GE healthcare, IBM, etc.). Israel has thousands of high tech startup companies as well as large and established world leading technological firms in fields of electronics and software, optics, imaging, space technology, home land security, healthcare, etc. (e.g. ELOP-Elbit, IAI and TEVA).Israel has a very strong and well-known academic base, with emphasis on Natural Sciences and Engineering, among which the most prominent schools are the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Technion of Haifa, Tel Aviv University, Bar Ilan University, Ben-Gurion University at Beer-Sheba, and last not least the Weizmann Institute of Science. As such, and in strong collaboration with the industry, many international conferences are hold regularly in Israel. The venue of the conference will be the faculty of engineering at Bar Ilan University campus in Ramat-Gan (see Fig. 1).

The city of Ramat Gan is located only 70km from the ancient city of Jerusalem, only 100km from Haifa and the northern part of Israel, and at walking distance only from the alleys and the fortress of old Jaffa.

Scientific program:
The scientific program will last 3 full days and it will be designed for 3 parallel tracks. Authors
are encouraged to submit papers focusing but not limited to the following:
1. Fundamentals, hybridization and future approaches:
• Laser tissue interaction
• Emerging technologies and applications
• Photo-acoustics
2. Sensing:
• Biomedical imaging and sensors
• Laser spectroscopy, microscopy and nanoscopy
• Nonlinear Imaging and Multiphoton Microscopy
• Cytometry and High Content Screening
3. Treatment:
• Laser therapy and devices for: Photo-thermal, Photodynamic and Low laser level therapy
• Laser acoustics remote treatment and visualization
• Opto- and thermo-genetics: Controlling the brain with light
• Towards nanomedical treatment: usage of nanoparticles, nanoplasmonics and teranostics

Abstracts submission:

The abstracts are to be sent to the email address of Email: zalevsz@biu.ac.il with subject line of LALS18. The submission deadline is 15/08/18.

Special issue:
Following the conference, SPIE proceeding papers will be collected as well as a special issue in peer review Applied Sciences journal is to be organized for the publication of the conference full papers.

Best student presentation:
Students participating in the meeting will compete for the best paper award.

Proposed conference dates:
The conference will be held during 18-20 of November 2018 which is a good choice in terms of the climate.

Touristic Program:
On the fourth day, after the end of the technical program of the conference, a one day trip will be organized to old Jerusalem, Masada castle and to the Dead Sea (see Fig. 2 below) which is the lowest point on earth.
